Kindergarten Readiness Skills include the following:

Social and Behavioral:  
  • Can function within a cooperative learning environment and work both independently and as a member of small and large groups
  • Can attend to and finish a task
  • Listen to a story in a group
  • Follow two or three oral directions
  • Take turns and share
  • Care for their belongings and respect the property of others
  • Follow rules
  • Work within the time and space constraints of the school program
  • Distinguish between work and play
Sensory-Motor:
  • Mastered many large muscle skills such as walking, running, and climbing
  • Fine motor skills requiring eye-hand coordination, such as use of a pencil, crayons, or scissors.
  • Fine motor skills are used when the child begins to write his or her name and to make attempts at written expression.
  • Both visual and auditory discrimination of objects and sounds.
  • Such discrimination skills will be used to learn the names and sounds of letters and the names and quantities of numerals.
Cognitive and Language:
  • Can express and understand a variety of words in conversation and stories
  • Has developed an interest in what print says and how it is used to express ideas
  • Understands a concept of a story and story structure
  • Understands the relationship between oral and written language.
  • Concepts of same and different
  • Recognize and name colors, shapes and sizes
  • Recognize own name

Kindergarten Students must be 5 years old before December 30.
